2016 Topps Archives Baseball brings back vintage Topps designs across a 300-subject base set built on the 1953, 1979 and 1991 looks. Each hobby box holds 4 packs of 8 cards and is configured for two autograph cards.

The base set splits evenly into three 100-subject groups: 1953 Topps, 1979 Topps and 1991 Topps. Base parallels run through blue and red border versions, both sequentially numbered, up to black border parallels and printing plates numbered 1/1. Limited base short prints add subjects that do not appear in the regular base set.

A pop-culture tie-in features select characters from Bull Durham on the 1988 Topps design, the year of the film, as both inserts and on-card autographs. New inserts include 1969 Topps Super, a 1985 Topps #1 Draft Pick set built around past first overall MLB Draft picks, and a 1985 Father-Son set honoring father-son pairs who played in Major League Baseball.

Autograph content centers on Fan Favorites Autographs, signed on-card on vintage Topps designs, and Topps Originals Autographs, a run of buybacks foil stamped as Topps Originals, signed on-card and sequentially numbered. Autographed versions of each insert design, including the 1969 Topps Super, are also part of the checklist.
